Core Drilling Reinforced Concrete Walls and Columns
Coring Retaining Walls: That contain reinforcing bar or also known in the field as rebar. A retaining wall is a wall of masonry built to sustain the lateral pressure of earth lateral possessing more or less frictional stability. Inconsequently, we drilled a 4 ½" core hole for a dryer vent and a 9" core hole for a natural gas vent for the furnace. In the Weston and Wellesley Massachusetts area including Wayland and Waltham there is a wave of rehabilitation rather than overall ne construction. Concrete Cutting and the like in the industry are directly affected by the real estate market. A reinforced-concrete retaining pro wall cut is nearly always more economical than a retaining wall of gravity section, either of stone masonry or plain concrete. The amount of Building Permits that are issued in Massachusetts is and indicator or gauge on the overall health of the economy. A quality concrete boring machine is required. When we use a 3 speed Black and Decker Core Drill and a Diamond Products concrete coring bit, the end result is always the same as if we had used a giant 4 speed drill. Sometimes one can get some pretty good deals on eBay for the same concrete products found elsewhere. In stone masonry and plain concrete walls the section must be made heavy enough so that the weight of the structure will prevent overturning, while in reinforced-concrete walls the weight of a considerable part of the sustained material or concrete slug is utilized and, in addition, the sections may be designed to more nearly develop the full strength of the concrete. Once the engineering, the excavating and the foundation are complete the home improvement contractor can get in and get his work done.
The fundamentals of Concrete Sawing and Drilling for Home Improvement and Additions in Massachusetts provide guidelines for contractors and engineers during construction. In order to validate these fundamentals we must provide the leading governing body, in this case the United States Government, two thousand concrete core samples, slugs and cylinders. This was no easy task. We used a core drill w/110v electric power to core the samples and it was adequate.
Earth Pressure is not relevant to drilling round holes in concrete structures for utilities such as electrical, plumbing and venting. To completely determine the effect of the thrust of the diamond coring bit into that of the earth against a wall, it is necessary to know (1) the magnitude of the pressure, its point of application, and its line of action. We have little exact knowledge of the affect on your drilling machine, however, concerning these three elements of the thrust; AB represents the back of a retaining wall, and the surface of the ground. The earth has a tendency to break away and come down some line, thus producing on the wall. The weight of the earth tends to cause pressure on the core drill bit which in return causes operator fatigue and irritability. Either way none of this is worth a hill of beans unless you call the phone number provided.
Economic reasons
Using seal coating to repair a driveway or parking lot can be considerably less expensive than repaving an entire asphalt pavement surface.
Sealcoating can be an interim step to asphalt paving, giving you extra time to save money for additional asphalt paving in the future.
Seal coating can substantially prolong the life of existing asphalt pavement on a driveway or parking lot.
What is Slurry Seal?
Slurry Seal is a sealcoating mixture of specially graded aggregate and a special asphalt emulsion, often applied with a special seal coat squeegee. This smooth textured mixture can be easily applied under normal weather conditions.
What is the Purpose of Slurry Seal?
Slurry Seal will seal and protect existing pavement on a driveway or parking lot from weather changes and will also produce some minor leveling. It is also useful for crack filling, to improve traction, to improve appearances and to reduce studded tire wear. Slurry Seal made with a coal tar emulsion will protect the pavement in parking areas and driveways from damaged caused by oil spills and drips. This mixture is designed to enhance asphalt paved surfaces and will not need to be immediately repaved.
What are the effects of weather when applying Slurry Seal coats?
When applying, weather can have a dramatic and damaging affect on the quality of the seal coat. Variations go from cool to hot temperatures and include rain wind and humidity. You can only plan to apply this type of sealcoating when weather conditions are fair.
When applying seal coating, cool air or pavement temperatures less than 55-60 degrees Fahrenheit can affect the binding and adhesion characteristics of the asphalt by making it less sticky or increase it pliability. The result is a poor bond between the existing pavement, the asphalt, and the rock.
Sealing a driveway or parking lot in hot weather, greater than 90 degrees Fahrenheit can also create application problems with seal coating. The seal coat is more fluid and is less viscous and it loses its strength.
Rain also causes problems by allowing the slurry seal particles to float up through the aggregate cover to the top and it causes them to be picked up on tires of vehicles.
If you have an existing asphalt paved driveway or parking lot that is in need of repair, it is imperative to apply seal coating in order to increase the overall look and durability of the pavement surface. Sealcoating costs far less than repaving an entire surface and will add many years to your paved driveway. Maintenance is the key to adding life to any asphalt driveway or parking lot. Never make the mistake of not being proactive regarding the maintenance of your asphalt paving parking lot or driveway!
